PURIFICATION: Our Company, single distills all mercury prior to the continuous feed vacuum distillation process. Our Company purifies each 1,500 pound batch of mercury in one of our continuous feed vacuum distillation units. Mercury distillate is fed directly from the first stage into a second separate pot and then separately into the third finishing pot. Residues from prior distillation are never mixed with higher stage material. This results in a quadruple distillation of all mercury to achieve the highest purity levels available.

APPEARANCE TEST: Lot samples are drawn and examined for surface contamination using the Wichers Test procedures. See PURE MERCURY Edward Wichers. Samples are approved where surface is bright mirror-like and free from any floating impurity or scum. Mercury must not exhibit tailing when swirled in a clean dry dish. This test shows purity to be one part per million or better with respect to base metal contamination.

CHEMICAL ANALYSIS:1,343 grams of mercury are taken from a batch and gently evaporated in a special apparatus designed just for mercury analysis. The process heats the mercury at high temperatures under high vacuum so that any non volatile residue is captured in a quartzcrucible for chemical analysis. An aqua regia solution is used to extract all residuals and compared to a blank for quantitative analysis.

NOTE: Mercury packaged in flasks of 34.5 KG/76 lbs or in polyethylene bottles, which may show lint, polyethylene or carbon particles.

Mercury packaged in steel flasks may show iron particles.
